Shelby Rodriguez
Born in 1996 in Colorado, Shelby Rodriguez is a contemporary figurative painter working primarily in oil. Raised in Norway and Estonia, she returned to the U.S. to pursue higher education, earning a B.S. in Biology from the University of Nevada, Reno, and an M.Ed. in Secondary Science Education.
Her current series explores how the world relies on women being constantly available. Each painting portrays a woman engaged in a daily ritual—quiet, intentional acts of self-care and reflection. These naturalistic scenes invite viewers into intimate spaces while simultaneously casting them as intruders, highlighting the tension between personal sanctuary and social expectation. Blending classical technique with contemporary themes, Rodriguez underscores the fragility and significance of these small, sacred moments.
She lives and works in Reno, Nevada, and has exhibited at the Artist Cooperative Gallery of Reno, where she has been selected as an emerging artist.
